Why did you decide to join Kantar?
I graduated in December 2021 and in January I started working in a Chilean distillery. I realized that I wasn’t satisfied with my professional decision and future in the company, and I started searching for jobs. Searching in LinkedIn I found the advert for Kantar; they were searching for an Account Executive. I had never heard of Kantar, but by reading the description I was intrigued. I had the first meeting, where the Account Manager’s told me about Kantar, the way of working and the day-to-day work and in that moment, I decided that I would do anything to get in. I felt that this job was the perfect match for me. A job that had career development, a lot of data analysis and the best part, studying and presenting business cases to the clients, hearing their problems and try to give them recommendations and solutions that would help them to grow their brand.
What skills are the most important skills you need as an Account Executive?
The most important skill is to be analytical, try to see the data and extract the most important information. Then to be innovative and creative in the way of presenting these insights. The idea is to tell a full story about what is going on in the whole environment and then going into detail. It´s like a funnel, you first start with the most general information and then you start going deep into detail, until you attack the main issue.
What would surprise people about your job?
When I tell my friends that I work in a market research company, they all think it’s boring, but the fact is that is the opposite. Because we study the household consumption through a panel, we are constantly learning how consumption in the local market moves, so we always have some strange data about how people buy and what they buy, making it a great ice breaker in conversations.
What advice would you give someone just starting out in their career?
To not be impatient, take the time to really get to know yourself and the things that motivate you, so that you can search and find a job that matches those motivations. I learned the hard way, by being impatient and accepting the first job that was offered to me, after a lot of rejection from other jobs. You need to know your value. Because trust me, when you find the job that doesn’t feel like a job, you’ve done it, and that is the feeling that Kantar gives to me. For me it’s not a job, it’s my passion, my motivation, the thing that I like the most and I could do day by day. Be patient because the reward is priceless.
What would you do if you didn’t do this?
I would have loved to be a professional athlete, specifically in Rugby or Football, but a series of serious injuries prevented me from choosing that path, now I play them as hobbies.
